Iredale Discusses New Deal, Consistency & Confidence In The Group
Hibernian defender Jack Iredale is delighted to commit his future to Hibernian FC and eager to on what has been an impressive debut season in Leith.
Earlier this week, Iredale penned a new daeal with the Club – extending his contract until summer 2028.
The left-sided defender has been a rock at the back for the Hibees this season and admitted it was a no-brainer of a decision.
“I am delighted to get it sorted, it was a really easy decision on my part. I am very grateful for the faith the Club have shown in me – to give me another three years – what a place to be!
“It has been a fun ride so far, winning games has obviously helped. When you come to a Club as big as this – and you are made to feel as welcome as I have been – I have settled in fast and it has just worked on so many levels. My girlfriend is Scottish as well, so it has just worked on so many levels and I am really happy to be at Hibs.
“When I joined the Club, I knew how big of a platform Hibs was – I have international aspirations as well, so with three of the lads playing for Australia, I knew a Club as big as Hibs in a league like this would give me opportunities.
“For me, I just wanted to get back playing. I played a fair bit at Bolton, but it was never that consistent – so it has been great to come here and cement my spot in the team this season. I am happy to just keep continuing this momentum.”
Iredale has featured 26 for Hibs this season, forming a key partnership at the back with Rocky Bushiri that has blossomed since both players began playing regularly in November.
“This formation works to everyone’s strengths, I have loved playing with Rocky – and we’ve created a strong connection from day one. I have a good relationship with Jordan (Obita) or Nicky (Cadden) on the left-hand side as well, so when you are comfortable with your surroundings, and you are playing consistent minutes with these people it almost becomes second nature to you.
“You can see what consistency has done for this team, this season. It took a bit of time for us to get there, but you can see what we are capable of. The 17-game unbeaten run doesn’t happen by accident. I know the Club will want to keep as many people as possible under contract, whilst adding extra quality as well in the summer.”
Looking ahead to this weekend’s crucial fixture with Aberdeen, Iredale insists his teammates are ready for the challenge ahead with everything still to play for this season.
“Every game that we’ve played has felt like the most important game of the season and I don’t think that will change between now and the end of the season.
“We are under no illusion as to how difficult this game is going to be, Aberdeen are on a great run of form as well – but we need to play our own game to make sure we get a positive result. The main thing for us is consistency, and we just need to keep the run and the confidence going.”
