Ramon Vega hits out at Tottenham fans over Ange Postecoglou claim
Ramon Vega has hit back at Tottenham fans calling for Ange Postecoglou’s head, warning against ‘disrespect’ amid ongoing pressure.
Ange Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham Hotspur is still up in the air, as the Australian manager is currently overseeing one of the club’s worst seasons in recent years.
The Lilywhites are 16th in the league table, just a single point above 17th-placed West Ham United, and that’s unfamiliar territory for Spurs, who haven’t finished that low since the start of the Premier League era.
Indeed, many have questioned why Postecoglou remains in charge at Hotspur Way given this abysmal record.
However, recent reports have suggested that the manager’s involvement in Europe is his saving grace, and with Tottenham now in the semi-finals of the Europa League, Postecoglou has bought himself some time.
Ramon Vega defends Ange Postecoglou amid Tottenham fan backlash
Regardless, Tottenham fans remain split over Ange Postecoglou. Several gave their verdict on who they wanted in the dugout sometime last month, with many Spurs fans naming Thomas Frank as their preferred managerial pick.
That sentiment hasn’t cooled off, even after Postecoglou’s side secured a recent win against Frankfurt.
The chatter has now left Ramon Vega, a former Tottenham player, furious. After a fan posted a picture of Brentford’s Thomas Frank with the caption ‘gaffer’, Vega didn’t hold back.
The ex-Spurs man tweeted back: “Mate that’s the wrong picture !!! ANGE Postecoglou is still our gaffer and will be the Gaffer !!! Full stop ???? COYS ???? @SpursOfficial let’s stop talking about other managers when they are still employed by their respective CLUBS. Let’s not disrespect the managers.”
Spurs fans need to wait till end of season for Postecoglou decision
While every fan is entitled to their opinion, unity is needed at this moment in time. Given Postecoglou’s Premier League record, it’s very understandable why several fans would want the Australian out.
However, the 59-year-old could still achieve something special in the Europa League, with Tottenham just three wins away from ending their 17-year-long trophy drought.
But while he’s still the man in charge at the club, it would be in the best interests of fans to continue backing him and his players, then when the season ends, a decision can be made.
