82 touches, 64/69 passes, 5/7 aerials won: Amorim may have found his own Diomande in 7/10 United ace - opinion
Manchester United suffered a 1-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Sunday.
The Red Devils were unconvincing in the final third and managed just a couple of shots on target.
Wolves eventually came on top. Pablo Sarabia scored the winner with a tremendous free-kick.
Despite the loss, there were plenty of positives. Tyler Fredricson made his debut on the left side of United’s central defence. He was exceptional over 90 minutes.
The 20-year-old had 82 touches in the game, completing 64 out of his 69 passes. He completed 100 percent of his long balls (3/3) and won an impressive 12 out of 15 duels contested.
Fredricson was brilliant in the air, winning five out of seven aerial challenges. The youngster also made two tackles, four clearances and six recoveries in a memorable debut performance.
He received a 7/10 rating from Manchester Evening News for his fabulous display.
Shortly after the game, Harry Maguire praised the ‘brilliant‘ showing from Fredricson. In our view, manager Ruben Amorim may have found his own Ousmane Diomande at United.
Diomande joined Sporting CP as a relatively unknown from Midtjylland few years ago under Amorim. His ball distribution and ability to win regular duels have been a highlight of his young career.
United have been linked with the Ivory Coast international recently, and it has been claimed that Amorim would like a reunion with the talented 21-year-old ahead of next season.
Fredricson’s debut may have come out of the blue. His breakthrough could save funds for other key positions this summer if he continues to impress at the same rate for the rest of the campaign.
The 20-year-old could be a regular starter in the last five league games of the season. He has a big opportunity to prove his credentials and become a permanent first-team player under Amorim.
