This Receiver Prospect Being Compared To Patriots’ Stefon Diggs
The Patriots already signed Stefon Diggs this offseason, and they might have the opportunity to add a draft prospect who’s been compared to the veteran receiver.
NFL Media draft expert Daniel Jeremiah sees a lot of Diggs in Missouri’s Luther Burden III.
“As a player he reminded me a lot of Stef Diggs coming out of Maryland,” Jeremiah told reporters during a pre-draft conference call Friday, per a NFL.com transcript.
“Stefon Diggs was just so quick at just getting away from people, separating from people, and then with the ball in his hands, could make somethings happen,” Jeremiah continued. “He’s (Burden’s) outstanding. One of the best run-after-catch receivers in this draft, if not the best run-after-catch receivers in this draft.”
Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel already added Diggs, a competitive pass-catcher who was on pace to record a seventh consecutive 1,000-yard season before he tore his ACL last season. Could Vrabel and company try to add Burden, too? It’s possible.
The Patriots could still use help in the receiver room, and Jeremiah believes Burden could be available at the start of the second round.
“Luther Burden, I think there’s a real chance he could be there at that point in time,” said Jeremiah, referencing the Tennessee Titans’ 35th pick.
New England is set to be on the clock three picks later (No. 38), and Patriots radio broadcaster Scott Zolak confidently predicted they will draft a receiver with that selection.
While speaking to NESN.com last month, Missouri’s head coach Eliah Drinkwitz provided insight into Burden: “He’d be Drake Maye’s best friend.”
Perhaps Maye and the Patriots get that pass-catching help when the 2025 NFL Draft begins Thursday night.
