Tottenham are willing to ‘spend big’ on forward likened to Thierry Henry
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on securing the services of an African wonderkid, but they face competition from two Champions League clubs for the teenager this summer.
Spurs’ transfer policy of signing young, up-and-coming talents has borne fruit for the club, with the likes of Lucas Bergvall, Destiny Udogie, Pape Sarr, Archie Gray and Wilson Odobert arguably on their way to becoming top-class players if they are not there already.
It looks like Tottenham are going to persist with that strategy this summer, with the club turning to a Gambian striker, who is now on the radar of several European sides.
The player in question is Gibril Sima, who plays for Dutch Lions, who currently sit 11th in the Gambian top-flight, with a fresh report shedding light on why Spurs are keen on the youngster.
Tottenham are willing to spend big on Gibril Sima
This report comes from Football Insider, who point out that Sima has been likened to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry due to his pace and finishing ability.
The report claims that Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs tracking the 17-year-old, who will be eligible to make a switch to England when he turns 18 this June.
The outlet claims that the Lilywhites have been keeping tabs on the forward’s progress and have expressed an interest in making a move for him.
In fact, it is asserted that Tottenham are willing to ‘pay big money’ to sign Sima, although the report does not mention what sort of fee it would take to bring the teenager to N17.
Tottenham face competition as Sima edges closer to Europe
Football Insider go on to explain that Spurs are joined in the race for the young striker by other big hitters across Europe.
Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund are said to be big fans of the teenager and are keen on winning the race for his signature this summer.
The publication adds that Sima’s current club are resigned to losing him, with the youngster seen by many in the game as the next big thing to emerge from Gambian football after Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh and Stade Reims’ Adama Bojang.
