‘Leeds United to agree six new signings’ as transfer plan revealed
Leeds United are preparing for a busy summer transfer window as they look set to secure promotion back to the Premier League.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that at least six players could be added to Daniel Farke’s squad.
On their list of targets is a new goalkeeper, a full-back, two midfielders, a winger and a striker, while other positions will also be strengthened.
This comes after Ipswich, Leicester and Southampton are all set to come straight back down following difficult seasons, and Leeds are determined not to suffer the same fate.
Among the players being eyed are a new goalkeeper and new striker amid concerns about Illan Meslier as well as Joel Piroe and Patrick Bamford.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted Leeds have to consider which of their players can make the step up.
“Leeds are going to have a busy summer."
If you look at their team, there are a number of positions they need to improve in
They’ve got a very good squad, probably the best in the Championship, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be good enough for the Premier League
“Go through player by player, how many of them are Premier League quality?
The goalkeeper makes far too many mistakes, he’s not good enough.
Are the full-backs Premier League standard? They need at least one. Then they’ll need at least two midfielders, another winger, and definitely a new striker.
That’s six players just off the top of my head they’re going to need to bring in, all of Premier League quality, and that’s not going to come cheap.
You see what’s happened with Ipswich, Leicester and Southampton, who were all very good Championship sides since they came up.
I think with the way things are at the moment, it will be a similar situation for Leeds.”
