Ange Postecoglou reveals if he plans to rest key Spurs players against Wolves

0 2

Ange Postecoglou is very clear in his mind about the kind of Tottenham lineup he will name against Wolves on Sunday, with the second leg of the Europa League quarterfinal against Eintracht Frankfurt looming for his side.

The Lilywhites will consider themselves unlucky not to carry an advantage into the second leg, with Postecoglou admitting his frustration at Tottenham’s inability to get a second goal against Frankfurt.

The North London side know that they face a difficult challenge, given Frankfurt’s exceptional home record in the Europa League.

However, before they cast their minds to the clash in Germany, they have a small matter of a trip to the Molineux Stadium coming up this Sunday.

Ange Postecoglou will not make 11 Tottenham changes vs Wolves

Tottenham Hotspur find themselves in 14th place in the Premier League table at the moment and have little more than just pride left to play for.

They will thus undoubtedly have half an eye on the Frankfurt clash next Thursday, and Postecoglou has confirmed that he will ring the changes for the clash against Wolves, given the exertions of some of his players in the 1-1 draw against the Germany side.

When asked if we can expect many changes for Tottenham at the Midlands, the Australian responded (via Football.London): “Yeah, bit of a combination with Thursday in mind, but also with Sunday in mind because obviously there was a big physical toll last night, so you know away at Wolves is a challenging game, but I think for us it’ll be about sort of managing minutes of some guys, but also getting some minutes into other guys.

“We’ll need a big game, big performance on Sunday, so having some fresh legs will help, but also looking to next Thursday, like I said it’s not just about resting guys or managing guys, it’s also about having guys ready next week as it could go to 120 minutes and we need people ready to go so a combination of those factors we’ll make some changes.”

Postecoglou views Wolves clash as a good test

Rather than viewing the clash against Wolves as a distraction, the Tottenham boss believes that it will be a good test for his side to try and win away from home against an inform side ahead of their trip to Frankfurt.

The 59-year-old also spoke of the importance of building momentum ahead of the all-important tie in Germany.

When asked about the challenge that Vitor Perreira’s men will pose, Postecoglou responded: “Yeah, good challenge, they’re a good side and I think they’ve sort of stabilised in recent times and especially at their place, we had a tough game at their place last year as well and that’s why I think it’s good preparation for us.

“I think we need to be again at the levels we need to be in the Premier League to get an outcome. We want to get another positive result. We obviously won last week and we want to keep that going and have momentum building into Thursday, so good challenge for us, but one we’re up for.”
