Micky van de Ven reveals ‘crazy’ thing he loves about Archie Gray at Tottenham

0 2

Micky van de Ven has hailed Tottenham Hotspur youngster Archie Gray, who has been impressing in multiple positions this season.

Of course, while some Tottenham Hotspur fans are growing frustrated with Ange Postecoglou—especially after Ange’s naive admission about underestimating Spurs’ European commitments—there’s no denying that a few bright spots have emerged this season.

Spurs sit 14th after 29 matches, and given the team’s performances, Postecoglou is firmly on course to become Tottenham’s worst Premier League manager in the modern era.

However, one thing he’s undoubtedly got right is nurturing young talent. This season, we’ve seen the likes of Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall step up, looking far beyond their years in composure and quality.

Micky van de Ven praises Gray’s incredible impact

Tottenham’s pacy centre-back Micky van de Ven has now heaped praise on Archie Gray. Speaking on the ‘One on One’ podcast about the youngster’s ‘unbelievable’ impact, the Dutchman believes Gray is proving himself to the entire Premier League.

Van de Ven said: “I spoke with Archie even after games, before games. Of course, I speak with him, but it’s not even his natural position, and if you see how he’s doing this season as a centre-back, I think we can only be really proud of him and what he’s shown.

“He’s shown everybody in the Premier League what his quality is.” He continued: “Even sometimes, he’s played left-back, right centre-back – he’s played everywhere.

“So, every position where he’s played, he did unbelievable. When you’re this young, it’s really crazy that you can do this every time and just show your quality in every position the gaffer puts you in.”

Archie Gray has made 34 appearances for Tottenham this season, and of those 34 games, 19 have come as a centre-back, seven as a right-back, five as a left back and three in the holding midfield position.

Archie Gray’s rise to prominence at Tottenham

Of course, the youngster has quickly cemented himself as a key figure in this Spurs side, despite only joining the club this past summer.

The 18-year-old is also among the few Tottenham players to have played well over 2,000 minutes across all competitions this season.

In fact, only three players—Pedro Porro, Dejan Kulusevski, and Heung-min Son—have clocked more minutes than Gray.

His efforts have not gone unnoticed either, as Gray was recently crowned Young Player of the Year at the London Football Awards—a deserved accolade for a player who continues to shine under difficult circumstances at Tottenham.
