Jamie Redknapp hands Ange Postecoglou his biggest Tottenham warning sign yet
Jamie Redknapp believes that Ange Postecoglou’s declining relationship with the Tottenham fan base is a major cause for concern for the Australian ahead of the business end of the season.
As one would expect, the main talking point from Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat in the London derby on Thursday has been the controversial gesture that the Spurs boss made to the fans.
Tottenham fans reacted in anger on social media after Postecoglou was caught cupping his ears towards the away end after Pape Sarr’s equaliser in the second half, which was eventually ruled out by VAR.
Postecoglou has denied cupping his ears, but it appears that the damage has already been done, with the supporters not taking too kindly to the Australian’s gesture.
Disconnect between Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham fans
This controversy comes at a time when there continues to be plenty of speculation over Ange Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham Hotspur.
In fact, some sources are convinced that Postecoglou is likely to lose his Spurs job this summer, but Jamie Redknapp believes that the 59-year-old now faces a very tricky couple of months, given that the supporters are now on his back.
The former Tottenham midfielder told Sky Sports after Spurs’ 1-0 loss to Chelsea: “There’s a disconnect between the two [Tottenham fans and Ange Postecoglou] at the moment. It’s not ideal for the manager.
“He’s got some big games ahead. He’s got to keep his head up, got to keep going, working hard and believing in what they do.”
Postecoglou not bothered by Spurs fans’ reactions
After the game, Postecoglou acknowledged that he might be alienating Tottenham supporters, but insisted that it was never the intention to have a go at the fans.
The former Celtic boss also remarked that he is not bothered by the fact that his substitutions are getting booed, adding that his focus remains purely on getting the team to play better.
