The Professional Football League supports Peace and Sport’s #WhiteCard campaign

0 0

To mark the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, declared by the United Nations General Assembly and the International Olympic Committee in 2013 and celebrated on 6 April, the Professional Football League is responding to the call from Peace and Sport and brandishing its #WhiteCard for the 460 million children whose lives are disrupted by conflict.

Today, more than one child in six in the world lives in a conflict zone. These crises deprive many young people of their fundamental right to education and take them away from safe spaces where they can grow and flourish. Faced with this reality, the LFP is working alongside Peace and Sport to remind us that sport, and football in particular, plays a key role in preventing violence and strengthening the resilience of children affected by these conflicts.

A union of values for a lasting impact

The LFP is a committed player that deploys impactful CSR initiatives aimed at strengthening the efforts of French professional football in terms of sustainability and inclusion. These initiatives cover a wide range of themes, including child protection, the fight against discrimination, the fight against gender-based and sexual violence, accessibility for people with disabilities, support for the Bleuet de France charity, which helps victims of war and terrorist attacks, the fight against sedentary lifestyles and the ecological transition. All these themes have a clear objective: to build a more harmonious and equitable future for the generations to come.

Taking part in the #WhiteCard campaign is therefore an obvious choice for the LFP, which fully shares the values espoused by Peace and Sport: promoting peace, inclusion and development through sport. Together, we believe in football’s ability to bring people together and transmit essential values such as respect, solidarity and dialogue.

Joël Bouzou, Peace and Sport President and Founder
“We are proud to count the Ligue de Football Professionnel among the players involved in the #WhiteCard campaign. Together, we are demonstrating that sport is not an expense but an investment that can transcend differences and offer children a better future, even in the most difficult contexts”.

Didier Drogba, Peace and Sport Vice-President
“Football has a unique ability to unite and inspire. It embodies diversity and inclusion, bringing together people from all backgrounds around shared values. By raising a #WhiteCard, we are affirming our commitment to a more united and supportive world.”

Vincent Labrune, Ligue de Football Professionnel President
“We are extremely proud to join Peace and Sport in its global #WhiteCard campaign, which perfectly embodies our vision of football as a vehicle for positive change. Through an ambitious CSR strategy, the LFP is committed throughout the season to addressing crucial social issues. Our initiatives, carried out in collaboration with the clubs, bear witness to the transformative power of football and its fundamental role in building a fairer, more supportive and more inclusive society.”

The LFP is encouraging its community to join the campaign by raising a #WhiteCard on the weekend of 4-6 April.
