Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer Take Center Stage In Red Sox Triple-A Stretch

The Boston Red Sox have multiple big-ticket prospects pushing their way to the doorstep of the major leagues.

Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer just keep doing their thing on Triple-A Worcester’s first road trip of the season to visit the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. Anthony followed up Sunday’s performance that had a pair of home runs with a rocket triple to the gap. Anthony pushed the envelope and got thrown out at the plate vying for an inside-the-park home run.

Mayer also made his first true introduction to Triple-A with his first home run at the level. The Red Sox infield prospect earned his Triple-A promotion last August but never played a game after that due to nagging injuries.

Both players showed their big-league worth already to the Red Sox in spring training. They’ve earned their call to the show when it comes. For now, they just need spots to open up in Boston, whether to fill in from injuries or force a spark at underperforming positions.

Elsewhere in the WooSox game Tuesday, Vaughn Grissom homered while Brayan Bello made a rehab start. The right-hander went 2 1/3 innings and allowed four earned runs on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

The Red Sox could see all four players making some impact in 2025. Bello should soon rejoin the rotation with the prospects keeping themselves in the immediate picture.
