Ange Postecoglou accused of lacking one old-school trait in Tottenham training

Alan Brazil has claimed that he has heard something very interesting about the way Ange Postecoglou goes about his work at Tottenham and the way the Australian speaks to his players.

The one thing that sets the current Tottenham head coach apart from some of his predecessors is the fact that he refuses to throw his players under the bus.

Postecoglou has continued to defend his senior players, even though many of them have underperformed considerably this season.

There is now a big question mark over the Australian’s future as reports indicate Postecoglou is under serious threat of losing his job if Tottenham fail to win the Europa League.

Ange Postecoglou doesn’t get in the faces of his players

Alan Brazil was having a discussion with former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp on talkSPORT about the issues at Spurs and the lack of perceived leaders at the North London club.

During that conversation, Brazil revealed that Postecoglou is not someone who ever confronts his own players, insisting that the Australian only ever gives them instructions on what is expected of them on the pitch.

When Redknapp said: “I think those types of characters are starting to disappear (vocal leaders)”, Brazil responded: “You know, I hear Ange is a bit like that. He doesn’t really get into the players. He tells them what he wants and that’s it, He’s not one of those who is in your face.”

Tottenham players have waxed lyrical about Postecoglou’s communication skills

While Postecoglou has evidently made mistakes at Tottenham, it is surprising that his communication and leadership qualities are being questioned as many consider his man-management to be one of the 59-year-old’s biggest strengths.

Several senior Spurs players have spoken glowingly about the way the Australian communicates and the way he delivers his message to this squad.

James Maddison even revealed that one cannot blink when Postecoglou is speaking, admitting that the players are hanging by his every word.

The attacking midfielder said about the Tottenham boss: “He’s a really good motivational speaker. He has this way about him, when he talks to a group of players, he’s almost like an alpha male. When he’s talking, everyone’s listening. You can’t even blink.

“The team talks he does normally the day before the game, or even the day of the game in the changing room, they get you going, they get you ready to go out and play.”
