Ex-Patriot Seems To Call Out New England After Ja’Whaun Bentley’s Release
Ja’Whaun Bentley’s Patriots release prompted immediate noteworthy player reactions, both inside and outside of New England’s locker room.
Star cornerback Christian Gonzalez seemingly was stunned by the news about Bentley, who announced he was leaving the Patriots in a social media post Friday. Davon Godchaux, who New England traded earlier this month, didn’t appear to be surprised to hear about his ex-teammate moving on.
“It’s no loyalty, and it never will be! As a player you always have to do what’s best for you!!” Godchaux posted to X.
To be fair, we don’t know with absolute certainty that Godchaux’s post was about Bentley’s release and the veteran nose tackle’s gripe might have been with the NFL as a whole and not the Patriots specifically. But when you consider the timing of Godchaux’s message coupled with his recent exit, it’s probably fair to assume he didn’t leave Foxboro, Mass., on the greatest terms.
Regardless, Mike Vrabel and Terrell Williams have a clear vision for their defense, and they didn’t view Bentley nor Godchaux as ideal fits for it. Only time will tell if that analysis was correct.
