Man Utd want 23-goal striker available for free but move unlikely as Amorim isn’t a fan - report

0 8

Manchester United have made contact with the representatives of Lille striker Jonathan David ahead of the summer transfer window as they look to recruit the services of the soon-to-be free agent, according to The i Paper.

However, despite making enquiries and monitoring his contract situation, it is unlikely the Canada international will be joining the Red Devils, with the player not the kind of profile Man United head coach Ruben Amorim is seeking.

The 25-year-old is also on the radar of the likes of Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, Chelsea and Liverpool, and more suitors are expected to join the scramble for his signature after his return of 23 goals and ten assists in 41 games so far this term.

Man United will not be going after him from the look of things despite his versatility and quality, with Amorim seemingly not a fan of his style of play.

The Red Devils have been linked with the likes of Sporting CP hitman Viktor Gyokeres and his Napoli counterpart Victor Osimhen (currently on loan at Galatasaray), but they are expected to go after less-expensive options, and David would have been perfect for them following a return of 85 goals in 170 Ligue 1 appearances.

Apart from his weakness in aerial duels, the Lille star is the complete number 9, with passing, strong finishing, heading and retaining possession some of his major strengths, but he will not be playing for Man United next season, and it will be intriguing to see which striker Amorim looks to sign.

Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have been putting up average performances this term, but the Portuguese could look to hold on to both of them going forward and reject the chance to sign another player in the position.

The Red Devils need to strengthen their squad ahead of 2025-26, and they could do with a prolific goalscorer leading their attack.

Amorim has a crucial decision to make and the fans will hope the right players capable of helping the team improve significantly on the pitch are recruited in the coming months.
