Ange Postecoglou told he is failing Tottenham on the training pitch

0 10

Ian Wright has claimed that the responsibility lies on Ange Postecoglou to sort out Tottenham’s issues at the back, with the pundit not impressed by the Lilywhites’ defensive organisation against Fulham.

The reaction from the Spurs fan base to Sunday’s loss against Fulham appears to be one of resignation rather than outrage as the feeling of defeat has become all too common for the supporters.

It was Tottenham’s 15th loss in 29 Premier League games this season, a result which has left the North London club well adrift of the top half of the Premier League table.

Ange Postecoglou admitted that Spurs’ league record is ‘unacceptable‘ but remarked that there was not too much wrong with his side’s performance at Craven Cottage, insisting that they were let down by the soft goals they conceded.

Ian Wright questions why Tottenham’s issues are not being ironed out in training

Wright was very critical of both of the late goals that the away side conceded on Sunday, pointing out that both situations could have been dealt with.

However, the former Arsenal man insisted that the onus is on Postecoglou and his coaching staff to address these issues in the Hotspur Way training pitches.

Wright told Matchday Live on Optus Sport: “When he looks back at [the goals] it could be quite embarrassing because those two goals could have easily been avoided. And it’s costing Tottenham and it’s costing him, you can see the way he is in his demeanour, it’s costing him.

“When you look at his interview and he says he thought it was a pretty tight game and there wasn’t too much in it, but then you look at the way that they conceded the goals: it was a very easy giveaway from Odobert, and then a long kick.

“Those little margins, those little things that need to be sorted out on the training ground, if you lose it you’ve got to work hard to get it back, you’ve got to attack the ball if it’s coming from the keeper. These things get you points, and you’ve got to find a way to get points like that.”

Things are not looking rosy for Ange Postecoglou’s future

Reports over recent weeks have continued to suggest that Tottenham’s Europa League performance will be critical for Postecoglou’s long-term future at the club.

However, even if the Spurs were to win the Europa League, their Premier League form raises serious question marks over the Australian’s ability to get the side competing near the top end of the table consistently.

Over the last few days, sources have claimed that Tottenham have already working on possible alternatives for Postecoglou, a barring a major turnaround, it looks unlikely the 59-year-old is going to be in the job at the start of next season.
