Daniel Levy receives instructions for Tottenham’s summer transfer window

0 0

Tim Sherwood believes that Tottenham’s remit is clear going into the summer transfer window, with the pundit explaining what Daniel Levy has to do in order to close the gap with the best sides in the Premier League.

The 2024-25 season has been an extremely poor one for Tottenham, who are languishing in 14th place in the Premier League table after being hit with a major injury crisis.

The injury situation has improved for Spurs over recent weeks, and they still have a chance to make this campaign an extremely memorable one as they eye Europa League glory.

Even though we are still more than three months away from the summer transfer window, speculation has already begun regarding the club’s transfer targets, and Sherwood believes that the club’s transfer priorities should be clear.

Tim Sherwood calls on Daniel Levy to show transfer ambition

Sherwood believes that apart from addressing their squad depth in a few positions, Tottenham’s main focus should be on adding a couple of superstars to their squad.

The pundit suggested that the current Spurs squad lacks the kind of elite, standout performers who are capable of making a difference for their side consistently.

The former Tottenham midfielder and interim head coach told Foot Italia: “Spurs could do with strengthening in every department. They’ve got a lot of players in a lot of areas of the pitch, but I think they need a bit more quality in certain positions.

“They’ve got so many centre-halves now that players have come back from injury, and while they have a lot of depth in wide positions at the top of the pitch, and they have two international strikers in Solanke and Richarlison in the squad, they need to add star quality.

“They really need a bit more quality to add to the depth, or they need to go and sign a superstar or two, but you can only do that if you’re in the Champions League. There’s no hierarchy of quality in the team I feel at the moment.

“Normally, there’s a top band of players that are your core, but Spurs don’t have that. Who’s at the top that the rest of the squad are looking up to? They’re all at roughly the same level; there’s no standout performer in the team at the moment, which they desperately need.”

Will Tottenham change their transfer model?

We know that Spurs do not tend to make signings in the £80m-£100m bracket like some of the top clubs around Europe do.

The club likes to do their shopping in the £40m-£60m bracket and pursue players who are on the upward curve rather than established superstars.

That strategy has been further cemented under Postecoglou and Johan Lange and looks unlikely to change in the summer.
