And yet many of these "safe" teams don't throw everything behind winning cups. If West Ham, Brentford, or Palace went all out to win either domestic trophy it doesn't half offset the years of sitting on the hamster wheel.
The problem is that 1 PL place is worth more in prize money than winning the FA Cup.
Winning the FA Cup is worth about £2m. Each PL place is worth £3.1m.
If you go out early and finish 8th it's much better than reaching a semi-final or final and finishing 12th.
Unless you change that equation clubs won't take the FA Cup or League particularly seriously.
While it would take a crazy set of results/outcomes, apparently it’s theoretically possible for 11th place in the prem to qualify for Europe this year
Yeah I think we could have seven in the Champions League if we get the fifth on coefficients, an English club won it and didn't finish in top 5 and and English team won the Europa League.
