Fans told Ange Postecoglou may have fallen out with Tottenham vice-captain

0 8

Gary Lineker is surprised by Ange Postecoglou’s treatment of one senior Spurs man and has suggested that the Tottenham boss might have fallen out with him.

Ange Postecoglou rotated his Tottenham squad for the clash against Bournemouth on Sunday. That was to be expected, given the huge game that his side have come up against Alkmaar on Thursday, with qualification for the final eight of the Europa League on the line.

The likes of Heung-min Son, Lucas Bergvall and James Maddison dropped to the bench, but they did make an impact when they were introduced as Spurs came back from two goals down to salvage a point.

However, Lineker was surprised to see the treatment being handed out to one outspoken Tottenham star.

Gary Lineker questions if Ange Postecolgou has fallen out with James Maddison

Maddison once again showed the kind of quality that offers on the ball, with Tottenham looking much better as a creative force after the 28-year-old was introduced in the second half.

The attacking midfielder made a decisive impact, playing Heung-min Son through for the penalty which the South Korean won before stepping up to slot it home himself.

Lineker questioned why the former Leicester man continues to be benched despite delivering for his side whenever he is on the pitch.

The pundit said on The Rest is Football podcast: “Maddison late coming off the bench again, and when he comes on, he always looks the part and plays some really good football. I’m a bit of a loss as to what’s happened there. I wonder whether there’s been a bit of a fall-out.”

James Maddison criticised for pre-match Tottenham incident

While the England international might have delivered the goods when he came on as a substitute, he did come under criticism for a rather innocuous incident.

Roy Keane took issue with the fact that Maddison and Heung-min Son were joking around during the warm-up after the South Korean went down following a collision with a teammate.

A worked-up Keane said when he saw the incident: “How many times I see players laugh during their warm-ups? I don’t think I ever laughed in the warm-up, not once, but maybe that’s just me.”
