Roy Keane takes fresh dig at James Maddison to rekindle their war of words
The beef between Roy Keane and James Maddison is continuing, with the Sky Sports pundit upset by what he saw the attacking midfielder do just before kick-off against Bournemouth on Sunday.
James Maddison and Roy Keane have had a bit of a back-and-forth over recent weeks, with the Tottenham man responding with his goal celebrations after coming under criticism from the Man Utd legend.
The former Leicester City man was left out of the starting lineup by Ange Postecoglou against Bournemouth on Sunday, but he did make a big impact when he came on.
The 28-year-old should have had an assist for Pape Sarr, and it was his interplay with Heung-min Son that put the Tottenham captain on the run that led to the penalty, which the South Korean converted to salvage a point for Spurs.
However, what caught Roy Keane’s eye was what Maddison and Son did during their warmups just before kick-off.
Roy Keane blasts James Maddison for laughing
Son and Maddison were seen joking around during the warmups just ahead of kick-off after the 32-year-old fell to the floor as a result of an accidental collision with a teammate.
The midfielder went over to the forward before pretending to check on his knee and signalling to the Spurs bench to substitute him, with the incident attracting laughter from the pair as well as their Tottenham teammates.
However, Roy Keane, who was in the studio covering the game, did not like seeing the pair joke around.
A worked-up Keane told Sky Sports about the incident: “How many times I see players laugh during their warm-ups? I don’t think I ever laughed in the warm-up, not once, but maybe that’s just me.”
Maddison involved in an ‘intense chat’ with senior Spurs man
Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that the attacking midfielder was involved in another eye-catching incident with a senior Tottenham teammate after the final whistle against the Cherries.
Gold explained that Maddison and Guglielmo Vicario were involved in a lengthy chat after the 2-2 draw, with the pair seemingly discussing what went wrong during the game.
The journalist wrote: “James Maddison and Vicario could be seen having an intense, albeit constructive-looking chat after the game as they walked around the pitch with the midfielder putting his arm around the goalkeeper. Perhaps it was about the struggles of Tottenham in asserting any control over the chaotic encounter.”
