What Garrett Crochet Told Agent Before Blockbuster Red Sox Trade

The Boston Red Sox made the decisive move they needed to this offseason to put a true No. 1 starter at the top of the rotation.

Boston traded four prospects to bring in frontline starter Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox. The Red Sox have another flame-throwing lefty with ace-like expectations in a recent trend that hopes to bring the ballclub back to the postseason.

To do that, the Red Sox have to improve against a talented American League East. The Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles both made the playoffs in 2024 and New York earned a World Series berth. There’s still talent on the roster for the Toronto Blue Jays and the Tampa Bay Rays.

The AL East is, at the very least, one of the two best divisions in baseball. The chance to match the intensity and compete in such a setting became a major appeal for Crochet just before he joined the Red Sox.

“That’s a lot of the conversations I had leading up to the trade with my agent,” Crochet shared on the “Section 10 Podcast” this week. “I hoped to land in a situation like this because as a kid you grow up watching professional baseball. Now that I’m in it, the AL East is the highest of highs in professional baseball. You could argue NL West, but we won’t get into it.”

“I’m excited,” Crochet added. “Every team is competitive and fielding a strong bunch. I look forward to those matchups two to three times a month at this rate.”

Crochet feels like the likely option to take the mound on March 27 as the Opening Day starter for the Red Sox against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field.
