Report: Worthing 1 Farnborough 2

0 20

Similar to last week, a lightning start in a game involving Farnborough on the road, but this time it was jubilance for the travelling fans. A Joe Haigh free-kick rebounded to himself, and he slid the ball across for Alfie Pavey who saw his shot saved, but only into the path of Captain Ollie Robinson who smashed home to give Boro the lead.

The early action didn’t stop there, as Mo Faal slotted his shot past Jack Turner after turning away from Ollie Robinson, as the title chasers pulled level on the 13th minute.

On his return to the starting line-up, striker Alfie Pavey yet again proved to be a nuisance to the Worthing defenders who were handed the task to try and contain the Boro number 9. A long kick from Jack Turner found Alfie Pavey’s feet but his shot fizzed wide.

Looking to be a dangerous partnership upfront, AFC Bournemouth loanee Jonny Stuttle continued his scintillating form for his current side, as he fired home from a ball kept alive from the midfield engine of Aaron Kuhl, giving Farnborough a 2-1 lead within just 20 minutes.

It wasn’t plain sailing for Farnborough, as expected the hosts ignited through Mo Faal who had a strong shot held onto by Jack Turner.

HALF-TIME: Worthing 1 Farnborough 2

The second half began with some good football from the hosts, as Mo Faal and Tommy Willard looked to join forces for an equaliser, but it was brilliantly put to a halt, by an in-form Reggie Young.

There was another chance for Farnborough to double their advantage as Alfie Pavey was played through by Aaron Kuhl, but it took some good one-on-one defending from Sam Packham, as he deflected the ball behind for a corner

It became Stuttle’s turn for a physical battle with the Worthing defence, as he found himself fouled twice in quick succession, leaving Cook escaping with just a caution from the Referee.

It was yet more impressive defending from Sam Packham, as he made a last-ditch tackle on Joe Haigh to deny the Farnborough attacker a chance on goal.

The early action proved to be all that was needed, as Farnborough held on to their 2-1 lead, giving them three points to take back to Hampshire.
