Alex Bregman Shares ‘Big’ Reason For Wanting To Join Red Sox
Alex Bregman has been in Major League Baseball long enough to both understand and appreciate the unique experience of playing in Boston.
Bregman made several memorable trips to Fenway Park over the course of his nine seasons with the Houston Astros, including for multiple playoff series. But after signing a three-year contract with the Red Sox, the two-time World Series champion now will be a regular on Jersey Street.
As Bregman explained Tuesday on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show,” the opportunity to be a fixture at Fenway was a major selling point when the two-time All-Star was mulling his free-agent decision.
“I think when it’s Monday in Boston, and it’s still sold out and ‘Sweet Caroline’ is playing and the crowd is going crazy on a Monday or a Saturday night or whatever, it’s just an elite atmosphere that gets you up for every single game,” Bregman said. “Definitely played a big role in why I wanted to go to Boston. The fans are incredible. I feel like every game means something during the regular season, and I feel like that’s a good, healthy pressure.”
Bregman’s fondness for Fenway Park surely goes beyond consistently energized crowds. The star infielder also has outstanding offensive numbers in Boston, including a remarkable 1.240 career OPS.
As such, one can imagine how eager Bregman is to get going on his first regular season in a Red Sox uniform.
