Bruins Injuries: Don Sweeney Shares Latest On Charlie McAvoy

One day after the Bruins resumed their 2024-25 regular-season schedule, Don Sweeney provided two crucial updates on Boston’s blue line.

The most significant note was on Hampus Lindholm, who is “unlikely” to play again this campaign. Lindholm, who’s been limited to 17 games this season, suffered a fractured patella in November and was forced to undergo surgery.

Charlie McAvoy, meanwhile, is “doing better” after suffering a shoulder injury in round-robin play of the 4-Nations Face-Off Tournament, per Boston.com’s Conor Ryan, citing Sweeney. However, the Bruins general manager did not outline a specific timeline for McAvoy’s return to game action and also did not want to comment on the treatment McAvoy received before returning to Boston.

“The care that Charlie received here is what’s most important from the standpoint of where his health is at now. That’s all that really matters,” Sweeney told reporters, per The Boston Globe’s Jim McBride.

With McAvoy and Lindholm sidelined, the Bruins on Saturday utilized a defensive corps of Nikita Zadorov, Mason Lohrei, Andrew Peeke, Brandon Carlo, Parker Wotherspoon and Michael Callahan. The same six blueliners very well could be deployed Tuesday when Boston hosts the Toronto Maple Leafs.
