Five changes Ange Postecoglou should consider for Ipswich Town vs Tottenham - Opinion

0 7

Tottenham returned to winning ways in the Premier League against Manchester United last Sunday, but Ange Postecoglou could still consider a number of changes for the team’s upcoming clash against Ipswich Town with the club’s injury situation is now easing.

For a number of months, Ange Postecoglou had to manage with no more than around 13 or 14 fit first-team players within his Tottenham first team squad, and to complicate matters, he had to deal with an extremely congested fixture list.

However, the schedule has now eased while a number of the injured Tottenham players are back, giving the Australian some breathing space.

James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie and Wilson Odobert were all back in the squad for Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Manchester United last weekend with Postecoglou now left with the luxury of deciding if he should make further changes for the club’s trip to Portman Road.

Tottenham selection changes to consider vs Ipswich

1) Archie Gray for Ben Davies: Gray did little wrong over the last few months and may have felt a little hard done by to be left out of the starting eleven against Man Utd. He could come back into the side for Saturday’s clash, potentially replacing Ben Davies on the left of central defence.

2) Destiny Udogie for Djed Spence or Pedro Porro: While both Porro and Spence were exceptional against Man Utd, Postecoglou might want to get some mileage into Destiny Udogie’s legs. Porro might be the one who is rested, with Spence potentially moving to the right.

3) Pape Sarr for Lucas Bergvall: Bergvall is another youngster that has impressed over the last few months, but Postecoglou might feel that he could do with a bit more legs and defensive nous in the middle of the park in an away fixture

4) Brennan Johnson for Dejan Kulusevski: Kulusevski has quietly gone off the boil a bit over the last few weeks, and the injection of some pace out wide with Brennan Johnson could make Spurs more of a threat in behind the Ipswich defence

5) Mikey Moore for Heung-min Son: Postecoglou is unlikely to make this change but one can argue that it would be in the best interest of the team as well as Heung-min Son, who looks like he could use a couple of games off.

Tottenham need to build on the momentum of win over Man Utd

A loss against Ipswich will destroy all the momentum that Spurs gained from their win over Man Utd and take the side back to square one.

It would come as an ever-bigger blow than some recent defeats, given that the injury situation is a little better and the club would have had a full week to prepare for this game.

Postecoglou will know the importance of a win on Saturday as he tries to build up the players’ confidence after a difficult couple of months.
