Tottenham fans react to ‘easiest route’ in the Europa League draw
Some Tottenham fans are cautiously optimistic after the club were drawn against AZ Alkmaar in the Round of 16 stage of the Europa League.
The draw for the Europa League was completed this afternoon, with Spurs discovering that they will take on AZ Alkmaar, who sealed progression to this stage by overcoming Galatasaray in the playoff.
Ange Postecoglou‘s men have had a few weeks off from the competition, sealing progression straight to the pre-quarterfinal as a result of finishing in the top eight in the group stage.
They will resume Europa League action on March 6 when they will travel to the Netherlands for the first leg before welcoming Alkmaar to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the return leg on March 13.
Tottenham fans react to AZ Alkmaar Europa League draw
This draw is a relatively difficult one at this stage of the competition, but Spurs fans appear confident that their side should progress, particularly with the benefit of having the second leg at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Here is how some supporters reacted to the draw:
Henrik Olander said: “Get innnnnnnnn! Man United can have Sociedad!” while THFinnC labelled in the “best case scenario” for Tottenham. Munem_Sr even thinks it will be an “easy win for us.”
PCE_Deadmeat wrote: “It’s the one we wanted. Up to the lads now to bring home a W.”
SpursVibez added: “Definitely the preferred outcome, but they’ll be a tough opponent and we need to make sure there’s no complacency going into the games. But yeah overall positive and a really good opportunity to go far in this tournament.”
Manu23588 agreed with that sentiment, stating: “Ofc I prefer them to Sociedad but they will still be a tough tough fixture and if we don’t take our chances? It could be over. Romero Van de Ven and Solanke have 2 weeks to get fit or else it’s a long day.”
Trouble Sunny reacted: “Easiest route bro please let’s bring back Spurs European glory, the only challenge on our side is Frankfurt and Ajax (who will knock the other out) and Lazio who will definitely put up a challenge but we’ll be prepared and definitely play better than against the likes of Gala.”
Finally, SpursGamer CE wrote: “Almost everything in the draw went like we wanted. The only bad thing is we have to start at home for the QF and Semi but we still got the best place in the bracket when it comes to opponents! COYS!”
Ange Postecoglou will be hoping key players are back fit
Postecoglou will be desperate to have the likes of Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Dominic Solanke back in time for the round of 16 clash.
If the Australian does have those players back, he will be confident that his side has the firepower to overcome AZ Alkmaar and Troy Parrott.
This potentially promises to be a very entertaining tie, and we can expect a great atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the return leg, given that the Europa League is all that is left to play for this season.
