Red Sox Legend Dustin Pedroia Details Recruiting Pitch To Alex Bregman
The Red Sox pulled out all the stops to make one of the franchise’s biggest moves in recent memory.
Alex Bregman became an immediate point of focus for Boston upon the start of the MLB offseason. And while it took over three months for the sides to finally come together, Bregman now is poised to play a key role on a Red Sox team that very well could contend for the American League pennant in 2025.
The two-time World Series champion was formally introduced by his new club Sunday, and as he spoke to local media for the first time, Bregman revealed Dustin Pedroia was part of the notable contingency that recruited him to Fenway Park. Pedroia, who Bregman referred to as his “favorite player,” recently revealed what he told the two-time All-Star.
“I honestly just told him the facts,” Pedroia told The Athletic. “I just spoke to him a few times about Boston and my experiences and how great the people are and the city and how great the fans are. How it’s the best place to play and he would be a huge part going forward if that’s what he wanted.”
It’s unclear how significant Pedroia’s words were for Bregman, but the latter clearly wanted to play in Boston. The 30-year-old reportedly turned down a handful of competitive offers to don a Red Sox uniform, and he appears highly motivated to help restore a winning culture within the organization.
Like Pedroia, Bregman is known as someone who eats, sleeps and breathes baseball. And that commitment to the game should be supremely beneficial to Alex Cora’s club.
