Bruins Issue Update On Charlie McAvoy, Including 4 Nations Final Status
There’s still plenty of uncertainty about the health of Charlie McAvoy, but the Bruins issued an update about their star defenseman Tuesday.
The Boston Globe reported Monday night that McAvoy, who was playing in the 4 Nations Face-Off for Team USA, was admitted to Mass. General Hospital with an upper-body injury. McAvoy didn’t play against Sweden at TD Garden on Monday.
The Bruins confirmed McAvoy’s hospitalization with their statement. Here’s the entire statement from the Bruins:
“Charlie was admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital on Monday to undergo testing related to an upper-body injury sustained during the 4 Nations Face-Off and is currently being evaluated by Boston Bruins Head Team Physician Dr. Peter Asnis. He will not play for Team USA in the 4 Nations Face-Off Championship Game on Thursday at TD Garden.
The Boston Bruins will provide further updates on his condition and status as soon as they become available.”
Obviously, the health of McAvoy is the top priority for all involved. From an on-ice perspective, though, it’s a tough blow for the American team who will take on Canada in the 4 Nations championship game at the Garden on Thursday night.
The Bruins D-man was one of Team USA’s best players Saturday night in Montreal, sparking the Americans’ convincing win over Canada.
