Tottenham centre-back emerges as Liverpool target to join Virgil Van Dijk
Fresh reports reveal that Liverpool are very keen on signing Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Micky van de Ven.
Micky van de Ven’s time at Tottenham
Since joining the Lilywhites 18 months ago, Dutch centre-back Micky van de Ven has become an integral part of Ange Postecoglou’s system. His exceptional recovery pace allows the Australian manager to maintain a high defensive line.
The centre-back’s time at Spurs has been far from smooth, as injuries have kept him sidelined for long periods. This season alone, he has missed 26 games, but he is set to return in two weeks.
Despite his struggles, his quality is clear to see and he is now attracting interest from Liverpool, who believe he is a Champions League quality defender.
Liverpool keen on signing Micky van de Ven
This report comes from football Insider, who have stated that Liverpool are very keen on signing Tottenham Hotspur’s Micky van de Ven.
According to their reports, the Reds want van de Ven even if his international teammate Virgil Van Dijk signs a new deal beyond the end of the season.
The pacy centre-back is said to be highly rated by Arne Slot, who knows a lot about the 23-year-old’s capabilities and character from their respective backgrounds in the Netherlands.
While Liverpool’s interest remains strong, the Lilywhites do have an advantage as the centre-back still has four years left on his current contract.
Liverpool eye £70m defender Tottenham bid for
Football insider is also reporting that Liverpool have lined up Marc Guehi, a player Tottenham Hotspur put a £70m bid for in the just concluded winter window, as their alternative should they fail to land Van de Ven.
Guehi is set to enter the final year of his contract and is also attracting interest from Arsenal and Newcastle who are keen to land him this summer.
Signing Guehi this summer was always going to be difficult for Spurs as interest in the player has always been high. However, if they miss out on the Palace man this summer, then they have to ensure they keep their pacy defender.
