Clyde 3 Queen’s Park B 2

0 4

Despite Queen’s being 2-1 up , two goals, late in the game, saw Clyde run out winners in City of Glasgow Cup tie last night at The Albert Bartlett Stadium.

A brace by Jamie Bradley including a rocket from 35 yards out was not enough for the young Spiders to take the points back to Mount Florida.

The game kicked off in freezing conditions with light rain falling.

A strong and experienced Clyde side, which included a number of former Spiders, pushed Queen’s back in the opening minutes of the half.

Three minutes in and the Bully Wee were awarded the first corner of the game, which was well defended by the Spiders’ back line.

The young B side immediately responded with an attack down the left wing with Josiah Sowa putting on the after-burners to speed past the Clyde defence, deliver a telling cross into the box for Reece Evans to header narrowly past.

A few minutes later Josiah Sowa, who looked bang on form, picked the ball up inside Queen’s half, sped past four Clyde players before being up-ended just outside the Clyde box. The resultant free-kick sailed over the bar.

The Spiders first real chance came in the 15th minute when Rocco Hickey-Fugaccia broke down the right, played the ball onto Jamie Bradley, who squared the ball to Reece Evans. Reece hit the ball, first time, from the edge of the box, only to see Jay Kennedy, in goal for Clyde, block the shot on the six yard line.

Four minutes later Queen’s were awarded a penalty when Aiden McGinlay was brought down inside the box. Reece Evans hit the spot kick hard and low to the keeper’s left, but the Clyde keeper pulled off another fine save to deny the young Spiders.

The young B side kept pushing for the opening goal. In the 30th minute Michael Collie played the ball through to Jamie Bradley. Jamie tried to chip the keeper but, yet again, Jay Kennedy was equal to the challenge.

Clyde had a chance in the 39th minute, when Kyle Connell broke through the Queen’s midfield and shot from the edge of the box. His low shot narrowly missed the upright.

A minute from half-time Clyde opened the scoring and it was former Spider Scott Williamson who scored. Scott picked the ball up wide right, dribbled into the Queen’s box and hit the ball home from an acute angle.

Three minutes into the half Josiah Sowa was brought down 25 yards from goal. Jamie Bradley smashed the free-kick over the wall, but Kennedy, yet again, pulled off a fine save.

Three minutes later, Queen’s were awarded a penalty after pushing inside the six-yard box. Jamie Bradley took the spot kick sending Kennedy the wrong way to level the score.

Whether it was the cold or not, the game became disjointed with neither side dominating or building play.

However this low point was blown away when, in the 67th minute, Jamie Bradley received the ball, turned and hit an unstoppable rocket into the top corner from 35 yards out. A truly outstanding goal.

This goal sparked Clyde into life and they pressed for an equaliser.

In the 73rd minute Clyde equalised when Trialist rose, unchallenged, to meet a cross from the left to head the ball over Sam Kane into the net.

Five minutes later Clyde scored a third. An attack down the left saw the ball cut back to Dominic Docherty just outside the Queen’s box. His shot was deflected past the helpless Sam Kane into the net for what was to prove the winner.

In the 81st minute Ross McLean beat two defenders before shooting from 20 yards out, however his shot was, once again saved by Kennedy.
