Tottenham have already chosen long-term Heung-min Son successor – Paul Robinson says
Tottenham Hotspur are said to have already found their Heung-Min Son replacement and he could join the Lilywhites this summer, according to Paul Robinson.
Heung-Min Son’s time at Tottenham Hotspur
For well over a decade, Heung-Min Son has consistently dawned the Lilywhite shirt of Spurs. He has been a great professional and his loyalty to the club, cannot be questioned.
In his time in north London, the South Korean forward, has scored 172 goals, assisted 92 and has helped the club reach a Champions League final.
His status as a club legend is undeniable. However, with the forward now getting along in age, there are whispers that the club is now looking to secure a replacement for the 32-year-old.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Heung-Min Son replacement revealed
According to former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson, new signing Mathys Tel is a player that Spurs and Ange Postecoglou see as the long-term replacement for Son.
The young forward, who was one of the most sought-after talents in the just concluded winter window, is said to be highly rated by people at Spurs.
Robinson also revealed that Spurs are currently planning to make the teenager’s loan move permanent. He said when speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast: “Tottenham won the race, there were a lot of clubs looking at him, I think he’s going to be a good signing for Tottenham, he’s a really good player.
“I think if you look at his creativity and his dribbling, he’s an old-fashioned type of attacking player who is not afraid to take players on.
“Given his age, Tottenham are looking at him as the long-term successor to Son. He’s certainly an improvement on Timo Werner, so that’s obviously a deal that will come to an end at the end of this season.
“If you’re going to bring in a player in January, you have to make sure he’s an improvement on what you’ve already got, and he ticks that box.
“He’s the long-term answer in that position for Tottenham. I think the way Ange Postecoglou plays and the way he’s going to be allowed to play in that team will probably get the best out of him.
“Tottenham have made up their minds on him and he’ll be a permanent Spurs player as long as the finances are right come the end of the season.
“His performances would have to be really woeful for him not to secure a permanent move given the reputation he has got.”
Ange Postecoglou confirms Mathys Tel will be a Spurs player
The French forward who has a £50million option to buy clause in his current contract, has already scored his first goal for the Lilywhites in their FA Cup fourth-round tie against Aston Villa.
Ange Postecoglou also revealed in one of his recent press conferences, what the club’s plans are for the forward, he said: “He’ll be a Tottenham player, mate. He’ll be a Tottenham player. I think he’ll show everyone he’s going to be a Tottenham player in the next six months. I didn’t bring him here for six months.”
So far, the young forward has impressed in the two games he has played for the Lilywhites. His potential and quality are clear to see and if Spurs can make the deal permanent, he will be a great addition to their forward line.
