Ange Postecoglou faces an uncertain future at Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou has faced the worst injury crisis Tottenham have experienced in recent memory. However, some would argue he should still be getting more out of the players at his disposal.

Spurs sit 14th in the Premier League Table, having lost a staggering 13 matches. Things were starting to look more promising at the end of January though. The Lilywhites recorded a 3-0 win over Elfsborg in the Europa League, before claiming a first Premier League victory of the current calendar year away at Brentford.

This short spell of triumphs, however, has quickly reached an end. Tottenham lost an all-important Carabao Cup semi-final with a tame performance against Liverpool.

During the atrocious 4-0 defeat, Spurs failed to land a single shot on target as they were dominated in every area by their opponents, who Postecoglou described as ‘the far better team’

The Lilywhites then followed that up with a 2-1 FA Cup defeat to Aston Villa, meaning they have no hope of winning a domestic trophy in 2025.

Michel Vorm admits there is not a winning culture at Spurs

Michel Vorm does not believe sacking Postecoglou would help his former club prosper, while things should get better once injured players return to the Tottenham first-team squad.

He told GiveMeSport: “Spurs won’t get relegated. Once the fit players return, they will be better. Spurs have a very good squad. The team is struggling at the minute, especially at home. You can see the players feel pressure when they are on the pitch.

“The effort and commitment is there, but they just seem incapable of making the right decisions on the pitch. The form will turn, but at the minute they need strong characters to push the team on.”

“The injury list hasn’t been kind. For instance, they have had to use four goalkeepers this season. But even so, the team should be beating Leicester City at home. There’s no disputing this. I don’t think replacing Postecoglou would change anything. It’s just important to get all the top players back as soon as possible and then see how things go.”

Vorm has also spoken about how Tottenham’s ultimate aim is to win trophies. However, he has been critical of the club as they ‘lack a winning culture’.

He added: “It is difficult because Spurs haven’t won anything for such a long time.

“And it’s so competitive to win a trophy with all the top teams spending big money and always pushing for trophies, so there isn’t a winning culture at Spurs. That’s the reality because they haven’t got a trophy under their belt in recent years.

“But during my time at Spurs, we had a great group of players. The players were tight and communicated well all the time. You could see this on the pitch. We were close to winning trophies. We won many games and had very good players. The aim is to get back to this.

“The first task is putting yourself in a position to regularly challenge for honours. So now it’s important for Spurs to get a group of players who are all capable and hungry to progress in the right direction.”

Ange Postecoglou may need Europa League trophy to save Spurs job

Tottenham are now out of the League Cup and FA Cup, while any hopes of finishing in the European spots in the Premier League are all but gone. Postecoglou has been cut some slack due to the injuries he has faced, but Daniel Levy is renowned for pulling the trigger when the club fail to improve.

It is essential that Spurs are at least able to compete for the Europa League, or else the call will likely be made to end the Australian manager’s time at the club after just two seasons.
