Tottenham pushing Brighton in ‘concrete talks’ to sign Greek starlet

0 12

Tottenham Hotspur are currently locked in talks to sign a young centre-forward who has been hitting the back of the net for fun this season, but it is Brighton who are currently leading the race to land the player.

Greek starlet has caught Tottenham’s eye

It appears that Tottenham are set to continue their transfer policy of signing young, up-and-coming teenagers, even though the strategy has not been popular with some sections of their fan base.

The Lilywhites were locked in talks to sign Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich before the Frenchman turned them down, but he is not the only teenage striker that Spurs are eyeing.

It emerged earlier this month that Nuremberg striker Stefanos Tzimas’ impressive displays in Bundesliga 2 have caught the North London club’s attention, and we now have a fresh update on Tottenham’s pursuit of the player.

Tottenham holding talks over deal for Stefanos Tzimas

Tzimas joined Nuremberg from POAK last summer and has since proceeded to score 10 goals and provide two assists in 16 league outings in the second tier of German football.

Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has now revealed that Tottenham are one of three Premier League clubs eyeing a move for the 19-year-old at the end of the season.

The journalist claims that Spurs and Aston Villa have engaged in ‘concern talks and negotiations’ over a deal for Tzimas, but it is Brighton who are currently leading the race to sign the youngster.

According to Plettenberg, the Greece Under-21 international has had productive discussions with the Seagulls head coach Fabian Hurzeler and is ‘leaning towards’ a move to the Amex Stadium in the summer.

He adds that Nurnberg are demanding €25m (£20.8m ) plus add-ons for the centre-forward.

Tottenham doubling down on their transfer strategy

Spurs seem to be doubling down on their approach of going for the best young talent in the world, even though that approach has not translated into results this season.

That suggests that Daniel Levy, Scott Munn and Johan Lange are not just doing lip service when they say that they see this as a long-term project.

That bodes well for Ange Postecoglou‘s future as for all of the Australian’s shortcomings, he is the right man to get the best out of young, emerging talents.
