Tottenham’s ongoing search for a striker

Right from the start of the winter transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur have been in pursuit of a striker to bolster their attacking options.

Their search initially led them to Paris Saint-Germain’s Randal Kolo Muani, but the Frenchman ultimately secured a move to Juventus, leaving Ange Postecoglou’s side still in need of a centre-forward to support their attacking line.

With the injury to Dominic Solanke in recent weeks and Richarlison’s recurring fitness issues, the need for additional reinforcements in the forward department has become increasingly evident.

Indeed, in a bid not to be left short-staffed up front, the Lilywhites are working hard to secure adequate reinforcement to bolster that area of the team.

Tottenham consider a move for Monaco’s Breel Embolo

Tottenham are now said to be interested in AS Monaco’s Breel Embolo, but they are not alone in their pursuit of the 27-year-old forward.

According to L’Équipe, the Swiss international has attracted attention from multiple clubs, including Galatasaray, while interest has also been registered from clubs in England, Italy, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.

Bayern Munich are also involved in the striker market, and their French Under-21 international Mathys Tel has been mentioned in a possible swap deal involving Embolo.

Monaco, however, have placed a valuation of around €20 million (£16.7 million) on the striker. While they are open to a sale, they are not expected to part with him at all costs this winter. The French club anticipate a busy final few days of the window, as talks continue regarding Embolo’s future.

Is Embolo the right fit for Tottenham?

Looking at Embolo’s season so far, the forward has started 26 matches for AS Monaco across all competitions, including 16 in Ligue 1, seven in the UEFA Champions League, two in the Coupe de France, and one in the Trophée des Champions.

In those appearances, he has registered five goals and five assists, taking his total goal involvement to ten for the campaign—a return that, while solid, does not necessarily mark him out as a finisher who is better than what Tottenham have in their squad at the moment.

However, with the injuries up front, Embolo could most definitely provide useful depth for the Lilywhites as they look to strengthen their forward line.
