Tottenham eye Feyenoord defender in last week of transfer window

0 18

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to sign a central defender before the transfer window ends and they have been linked with a Slovakian international who will cost around £40m.

Tottenham have experienced problems in defence

Tottenham are having a poor season in the Premier League. In their last two matches, Spurs have been defeated by teams below them and they sit in 15th in the Premier League Table, having lost 13 of their 23 matches.

One of Tottenham’s greatest problems has been an inability to defend well. Spurs have conceded 37 league goals and only six clubs have let in more.

A key factor in this has been the injury issues Spurs have faced. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven’s spells on the sidelines have been a blow for Ange Postecoglou, who has had to play 18-year-old midfielder, Archie Gray, at centre-back on a number of occasions.

Spurs are interested in signing David Hancko from Feyenoord

According to Caught Offside, Spurs have asked about the availability of Feyenoord defender David Hancko. Chelsea are also eyeing a potential move for the 27-year-old, while Juventus have made the most progress to secure the player’s signature.

Feyenoord are reluctant to sell Hancko midway through the season, but a deal could be completed in the summer. However, he will not come as a cheap option, as the Dutch side will demand €50 million (£42m) for their hugely important player.

Hancko is one of a number of defenders Spurs have been linked with during the current transfer window. Other names said to be linked with the North Londoners include Milan Skriniar, Ko Itakura and Eric Garcia.

Spurs transfer target David Hancko has been important to Feyenoord

Hancko, who can play in the centre of defence or as a left-back, has been involved almost constantly for his side this season. He has played in all bar one of their league matches and made seven appearances in the Champions League.

Currently, Feyenoord sit fourth in the Eredivisie, however,r they have impressed in Europe and have a chance to gain automatic qualification into the last 16. Hancko has been key to their performances and has even managed three goals and four assists along the way in all competitions.
