Tottenham missed out on Bayern Munich player, but they won’t care anymore
Tottenham Hotspur have now found a player to challenge Guglielmo Vicario, however, they were first turned down by a Bayern Munich goalkeeper who was attracting a lot of interest.
Tottenham’s goalkeeper crisis this season
Guglielmo Vicario is a player with obvious flaws in his game, such as at set pieces. However, he has shown himself to be a great goalkeeper in open play and has been missed by Tottenham since he picked up an ankle injury in a 4-0 win over Manchester City in November.
Tottenham’s second-choice keeper, Fraser Forster, put in some commendable performances when he filled in for the Italian international.
However, his lack of ability with the ball at his feet became an evident problem and he was lucky it did not cost Spurs a place in the Carabao Cup when they won 4-3 against Manchester United.
Although Brandon Austin had a positive debut against Newcastle United at the beginning of the month, he was never likely to be trusted as Tottenham’s first-choice keeper until Vicario returned. This led to the signing of Antonin Kinsky, but the 21-year-old was not the only name on Tottenham’s transfer list.
Tottenham missed out on Bayern Munich’s Daniel Peretz
Spurs were linked with an Israeli international before completing the signing of Kinsky, but they were unable to complete a deal.
According to Sport Bild, Tottenham were interested in Bayern Munich’s Daniel Peretz. However, he chose to remain at Bayern despite only making seven appearances in all competitions since his €5m move from Maccabi Tel Aviv last summer.
Speaking on the potential move, Peretz said: “I had a few discussions and offers to be loaned out until the end of the season.
“There was interest. Of course, it’s good to gain match practice. I spoke to my family and my advisors and decided to stay until the end of the season. I really like the club, the team. We have something special here.”
Along with Spurs, RC Lens, Como and Copenhagen were all interested in Bayern’s third-choice goalkeeper.
No Peretz, no problem for Spurs
Peretz may have decided against a move to Ange Postecoglou’s men, but once Vicario returns from injury, Spurs will have two quality shot-stoppers.
Kinsky has already kept clean sheets in two of his first four starts for Spurs, against Liverpool in the League Cup and Tamworth in the FA Cup.
Other than showing some complacency with the ball at his feet in Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat to Arsenal, Kinsky has shown promising signs already. In time, he could become an important player at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
