Match Preview: Queen’s Park 18s v St Mirren 18s

0 1

On Sunday our Under 18s play St Mirren in the quarter-final of the Scottish Youth Cup at Lochinch.  Kick off at 1:00pm.

Queen’s Park progressed to the quarter-final by way of beating Dunipace United 7-0 in the second round, followed by a penalties win over Greenock Morton in the third round and a 3-1 win over Aberdeen in the fourth round.

The Young Saints have made their way to the last eight following wins over Alloa Athletic, Caledonian Braves and Heart of Midlothian.

The last time the Wee Spiders played St Mirren, the score was 3-1 to the Paisley side.

Head Coach Charley King

Head coach Charley King commented: “We are looking forward to Sunday’s game. We have probably had the hardest draw to get to this stage out the teams that are left. Sunday will be another difficult game but we can take confidence from our previous performances to get to this stage.

“We know St Mirren have players that have played in their first team and also a number of Scotland youth internationals, but it’s up to us to maintain our levels from the last couple of months and really take the game to them.

“The squad has improved a lot from the start of the season and being this far in the Youth Cup already may seem like a good achievement to some, but we are focused on going as far as we can.

“We have been a bit unlucky with the weather of late calling off our last league game, then being the free team in the league, but we have been training through Christmas without a break and have managed a few friendlies. We hope to maintain the standards set towards the end of last year with the wins against Motherwell, Aberdeen and Hearts finishing the year strongly.

Captain Leo Fisher in action against Hamilton Academical

Captain Leo Fisher said: “We’ve put in a lot of good work recently and have really been able to impose our style so far in the cup, which in the games we’ve played, we have reaped the rewards from. St Mirren pose a difficult challenge as we’ve played them once already this season and we really struggled in that game. However since then our performances have really improved and as a squad we’re going into the game with real confidence.”

PLEASE NOTE:
There is very limited availability to parking at the training ground. The access road, Lochinch Avenue, to our training ground is heavily used, therefore parking is not allowed on the verge of the road outside or near the training ground.  There is a public carpark within walking distance of the training ground for cars. Failure to follow these guidelines could result in cars being moved by Park Rangers.
