Tottenham recall Dane Scarlett from Oxford loan

Tottenham have made the decision to recall Dane Scarlett from Oxford United, ending his third loan move in three seasons. Scarlett has previously represented Portsmouth and Ipswich Town on temporary deals.

Scarlett made 20 appearances in the Championship for Oxford, however only seven of those were starts and he averaged 40 minutes per game (TransferMarkt).

The 20-year-old has failed to make a significant impact in front of goal. He scored four times for Oxford, with a scoring frequency of 200 minutes.

Oxford fans react to the news of Dane Scarlett’s return to Spurs

Oxford supporters have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to share their thoughts on Scarlett’s departure. While many are full of praise for the Spurs academy product, others believe he will be no great loss to the club.

Oxford fan, Colin, posted: “Shame .. thought he was very useful ..but not getting the game time, thought this would happen.”

Another supporter bemoaned the fact Scarlett had played second fiddle to Mark Harris: “THIS CLUB!!! Harris over Dane is ludicrous!!!”

Oxford season ticket holder Trevor Brown added: “All the best Dane, will be watching your progress with interest.”

However, one supporter was critical of Scarlett’s displays and said: “Thought he was ok, but hardly being picked as first name on team sheet as striker tells you much. Was never really committed in tackles and work rate poor for OUFC, so probably a good move.”

Also, in response to a Tottenham supporter asking if Scarlett had been any good, two Oxford fans claimed League One is his level.

What next for Dane Scarlett?

Having already been recalled from Ipswich after making only 12 substitute appearances, Scarlett’s early exit from Oxford is a blow for the forward.

With Dominic Solanke currently injured, there is an opening in the striker position at Spurs, but the most likely scenario is that Scarlett will be sent out on loan again to another EFL side.

We all know that some players don’t always hit the ground running with their first loan spells – just look at Harry Kane. However, if Scarlett dreams of breaking into the senior Spurs squad then he needs to start impressing during his tastes of professional football.
