Sky TV customers can unlock extra free channels with new button – and it’s ideal for football fans too

SKY has made it easier for customers to access extra free-to-air channels on its streamed product Sky Glass.

And the option could benefit football fans too.

Sky Glass has a host of premium channels that should have you well covered for entertainment.

But there are a handful you can’t get on Sky Glass currently that are available on Freeview.

Most of these focus on old favourites, such as That’s TV which is home to classic comedy Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em and Rewind TV where you can see Drop the Dead Donkey.

Talking Pictures TV is also the home of vintage films.

And Pop Up is a bonus channel for kids.

Sky Glass has a fallback option if your internet goes down that allows viewers to watch TV via Freeview instead.

You need an aerial to take advantage of this.

Until now it was only available in the absence of internet for Sky channels.

But in a recent update, the option to switch to Freeview at any time has been added in the form of a button you can find in the Apps & inputs rail.

Aside from accessing the odd extra channel, switching to Freeview may have another little-known benefit.

One of the disadvantages to streaming is the delay when watching big live moments like football.

Sky has worked to reduce the lag on the Sky Sports Main Event channel to only eight seconds.

But on other channels like BBC and ITV the lag can be much longer, meaning you might be catching important goals after your friends.

So, next time there’s a big match on, you might want to switch to the Freeview option on your Sky Glass.
