Everton vs Tottenham: Chris Sutton makes score prediction for must-win game

0 7

Spurs travel to Goodison Park in the Premier League this weekend needing a win against Everton, while the Toffees are hoping the return of David Moyes inspires the team to avoid relegation. Chris Sutton has now submitted his score prediction for Everton vs Tottenham.

Tottenham have not won at Goodison in 6 years

Tottenham desperately need points on the board in the Premier League. On paper, Spurs should have enough to beat their neighbours in the Premier League table. However, it has been 6 years since Tottenham last took 3 points home from a trip to Everton.

After Richarlison’s appearance against Arsenal, he should be available for increased involvement against his former club. Additionally, Ben Davies is reportedly back with the first team, providing a needed boost to Tottenham’s defensive squad depth.

Unfortunately, Tottenham will be without Dominic Solanke after he picked up a muscular injury in his knee after the North London Derby.

Chris Sutton’s score prediction for Everton vs Tottenham

Chris Sutton believes the pressure to perform at home could come back to bite Everton as they host Spurs.

In his BBC Prediction Column, Sutton said: “Everton’s approach will be different because they are at home. If they were away, I think they would be happy to sit in and soak up pressure, but they might be a little bit more expansive at Goodison Park, and I don’t see it ending well for them.

“So, it’s hard to make a case for Everton to beat Tottenham, even though Ange Postecoglou’s side are on a poor run too.

Antonín Kinsky did not have a great game in goal against Arsenal but it was a disappointing display by the whole team.

“Spurs have fallen so low in the table – 14th – that they need a win, and quickly. This might be the boost they need, although I am not convinced they will keep a clean sheet, even against Everton.”

Prediction: Everton 1-3 Tottenham

Spurs should win if Everton open up the game

Everton can frustrate Spurs who lack energy, squad depth and the right kinds of players to break down defensive teams.

However, if Everton succumbs to the pressure of opening up the game in an attempt to score and win at home, then that will play into Tottenham’s hands.

An away win would give Spurs some positive momentum to take to Hoffenheim in the Europa League on Thursday. Two wins and some acquisitions in the transfer window could drastically change the outlook for the remainder of the season.
