What Tottenham are saying about Marcus Rashford transfer rumours
Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford and a new update has been given on how likely he is to move to North London.
Tottenham have lacked strong options in attack this season
In the past decade, Tottenham have had a number of talented attacking-minded players at their disposal. Harry Kane and Heung-min-Son’s partnership took the Premier League by storm, while Dele and Christian Eriksen were both such technically gifted players in their prime. The latter half of Gareth Bale’s loan spell was also a joy to behold.
However, Tottenham’s current attack lacks the creativity and lethal goal scoring it once had. Although Spurs have collectively scored more Premier League goals than any team except Liverpool this season, no one player has stood out. Their top league scorer is James Maddison who has netted eight times, which is not a lot at this point in the season.
The wings have been a particular spot of weakness for Spurs. On the left, Son has not looked like the player he once was, while Timo Werner has failed to score a league goal in 17 appearances. The right wing has also been an issue, with Brennan Johnson struggling to be consistent in his form, while Dejan Kulusevski looks sharper in midfield.
Marcus Rashford is unlikely to join Tottenham
Spurs could use a new attacker in their team and someone able to play on both wings and up front would be highly useful. Marcus Rashford is one such player and he has been linked with a move to Tottenham.
However, according to journalist Mike McGrath (via Last Word on Spurs), it is unlikely that Rashford will make the move to Ange Postecoglou’s side.
McGrath appeared on the Tottenham podcast and said: “With the others, Rashford, that’s been denied by the club, Spurs are saying no.
“Personally this isn’t from information, just my opinion, I think Spurs would be mad not to ask about it if he’s available.
“I don’t think United would sell to a mid-table rival or doing business. I would be amazed if they didn’t have a conversation about it, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.”
The last time Spurs and Manchester United agreed a deal for the permanent transfer of a player was in 2008, when Dimitar Berbatov joined the Red Devils.
Marcus Rashford’s stats for Manchester United
Rashford has four goals and one assist in 15 league matches this season. He has also netted twice in the Carabao Cup and once in the Europa League.
In his two strongest seasons at United, Rashford scored 17 league goals, which is set to be more than any Spurs player this season, unless they more than double their current tallies.
While Jamie O’Hara has backed Spurs to sign Rashford, the MBE-winning forward has been branded bang average by Chris Waddle. Therefore, the now unlikely move has certainly divided opinions.
