Spurs wrapped up Antonin Kinsky deal swiftly

Tottenham agreed a £12.5m deal with Slavia Prague for Kinsky at the start of the transfer window and managed to wrap up the deal with such speed that the media did not catch wind of it until the goalkeeper arrived in London for a medical.

While it is still early days for the 21-year-old at Spurs, if his first two appearances in North London are anything to go by, the Lilywhites have got themselves a potential future star.

It has now emerged that Slavia Prague were about to agree a deal with another club before Tottenham turned up with an offer they cannot refuse.

Napoli wanted to sign Antonin Kinsky too

Slavia Prague sporting director Peemysl Kovar has now revealed that Napoli were keen for the Czech goalkeeper to replace Alex Meret when his contract runs out at the end of the season.

He explained that the Serie A side were willing to sign Kinsky and loan him back to Prague, but Tottenham came out of the blue to quickly wrap up a deal for the goalkeeper.

Kovar told Live Sport: “The priority was to agree on a transfer now in the winter, with Tonda [Kinský] staying on loan until the end of the season. Napoli came in with the idea of losing their number one in the summer and wanted to secure Tonda, but then Tottenham stepped in and wanted to do it right away. It’s hard to turn down that kind of interest.

“We were a bit surprised at the beginning, but Tottenham’s interest was really big. Their owner Daniel Levy came to negotiate the transfer, so it quickly got to a level where the negotiations were between [Slavia president Jaroslav] Tvrdík and Mr Levy and then it was quite dynamic.

“By the time it was obvious that Tonda was going to leave, Tvrdík and Martin Riha still did a great job and topped the whole transfer off by agreeing an incredible final transfer fee with Tottenham. Thanks to them, it is what it is.”

Daniel Levy played a big role in Tottenham transfer

Kinsky‘s agent, Viktor Kolar, revealed last week that Levy spoke to the Spurs newcomer’s dad, who is a former Czech Republic international goalkeeper, to convince him that a switch to N17 would be the right move for his son.

When asked who convinced Kinsky senior: “Daniel Levy, the owner of Tottenham himself (convinced him). That same day (New Year’s Eve) he sent a message that he was flying to Prague on January 1.

“We met in our office in Pankrac. After three hours, it was agreed. I was so moved by how the father gave his son his blessing: Go ahead, I trust you. After the meeting, he was sure that the move was the right one.”
