Alex Brash Obituary
It is with great sadness that we learned last night of the passing of former Raith Rovers player Alex Brash.
Alex was an outstanding signing for Raith Rovers in the summer of 1986.
He was a ‘no nonsense’ centre-half who served Forfar Athletic with distinction over 12 years, making 375 league appearances.
Frank Connor identified Alex Brash as a valuable addition to the Rovers side as we looked to win promotion.
Frank parted with a four-figure fee to bring him to Kirkcaldy.
Alex’s experience was invaluable to the side that won promotion in season 1986/87.
Even as a 31-year-old he was superbly fit.
Alex was born in Dundee on the 21st of February 1955.
He played for Elmwood Juniors before turning senior at Forfar.
He helped Forfar to two Scottish Cup Semi-Finals and to within one point of promotion to the Scottish Premier League.
Alex made 96 appearances at Raith Rovers, scoring eight goals over a three year period.
At a recent Reminiscing Raith session, club captain at the time, Cammy Fraser described Alex Brash as “One the best centre-halves that I ever played with.”
The youngest player in that team, Jock McStay on hearing the news said, “Alex was first and foremost a wonderful man. He was an old school centre-half, he could tackle!”
Alex is survived by his wife Jan and sons Mark and Kris.
All at Raith Rovers would like to send his family our deepest condolences.
