Midweek preview: Bassett set for Supermarine semi final
Royal Wootton Bassett Town square off against Swindon Supermarine in the semi finals of the Wiltshire Premier Shield on Tuesday night as Sam Collier's side aim to spring an upset and reach a first cup final for the Men's First Team in 24 years. The game will be taking place at Chippenham Town's Thornbury Surfacing Stadium, 7.45pm kick off. Admission is £5 for adults, £3 for concessions and free for those aged 16 and under. Please do brave the January cold and come along to show your support! A repeat of last year's semi final matchup in which Supermarine prevailed 3-2 after a valiant Bassett effort, Collier and his team will this time be aiming to get the better of their Southern League Premier Division South opponents. Unlike last year, Supermarine don't have home advantage. And the game will be taking place at a ground Bassett have already won at this season, having caused a quarter finals upset by beating Chippenham Town on penalties. That victory came after Bassett received a reprieve, having previously lost 4-2 to Westbury United in the opening round. Supermarine, meanwhile, will be facing Hellenic League Premier Division opponents for the third consecutive round. Marine beat Corsham Town 2-0 at home in the opening round before triumphing 2-1 away at Highworth Town in the quarter finals. Last year's final four encounter was a thriller. Hopefully this season's will be the same - this time with a positive outcome for Bassett.
