NFL Rumors: Tom Brady Eyeing Patriots Candidate For Raiders
The Raiders might already be feeling the benefits of Tom Brady, which could affect the Patriots.
Ben Johnson is one of the most sought-after coaching candidates on the market. He’s scheduled and completed interviews with multiple teams, including New England, and Las Vegas reportedly is on that list, too.
The Raiders are “enamored” with Johnson, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport on Saturday. The Detroit Lions offensive coordinator met with Las Vegas virtually. One reason he agreed to do so was because of Brady, according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini.
Brady himself “personally vouched for Johnson and implored him to take the interview through his agent,” per Rapoport.
Raiders owner Mark Davis hoped the Patriots Hall of Famer would influence personnel decisions, and it appears he’s busy at work before he steps into the FOX broadcast booth for the NFL playoffs.
Rapoport added that the Raiders were willing to wait as long as possible if it meant they could hire Johnson. The 38-year-old reportedly is willing to take his time, which could influence New England’s decision since it reportedly wants to move quickly in its head coaching search.
Las Vegas doesn’t seem to be interested in Mike Vrabel, but Brady’s relationship with his former teammate will loom large until he gets hired.
