NFL Insider Shares New Report About Bill Belichick’s Future Plans
When Bill Belichick took his job with North Carolina, many wondered whether Chapel Hill merely was going to be a pit stop for the legendary coach.
Most assumed Belichick was going to join an NFL staff one year removed from his New England Patriots exit. There also reportedly is language in the 72-year-old’s contract with the Tar Heels that allows him to latch on with an NFL team with relative ease.
The idea of Belichick spurning UNC gained some momentum this week when NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported the Las Vegas Raiders asked the eight-time Super Bowl champion about his potential interest in an NFL comeback. The Athletic’s Dianna Russini followed up and shed light on where Belichick’s head was at.
“Bill Belichick has no plans to return to the NFL, per sources,” Russini posted to X on Wednesday. “I’m told his sole focus is on coaching and recruiting for North Carolina, as he continues building the Tar Heels’ future. He’s recruiting today in New Jersey.”
Of course, it remains to be seen how committed to North Carolina Belichick actually is. While he very well could be all-in for his debut collegiate season, it will be interesting to see how Belichick operates if an appealing NFL opportunity comes across his desk in the future.
