Ange Postecoglou insists Spurs are ‘not far off’ despite torrid form
The struggles of Tottenham Hotspur have been evident this season, but their manager, Ange Postecoglou, remains optimistic that Spurs can turn their fortunes around, even as injuries and form continue to hamper their progress.
Spurs’ struggles deepen, and Ange Postecoglou too
Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of a successful season appear to be fading as they grapple with a poor run of form in the Premier League, where the numbers make for grim reading.
Nine losses in 18 matches have left the club languishing in 12th place on the table, eleven points adrift of the top four, and only nine clear of the relegation zone.
As each matchday comes and goes, the North London side sees their hopes of European football slipping further out of reach.
It is not just the coveted Champions League spots that are slipping away but even the Europa League positions are looking increasingly difficult to secure.
A season that began with optimism now teeters on the brink of becoming another disappointment, leaving fans wondering if the tide can still turn in their favour.
Ange Postecoglou remains confident Spurs can get something out of this season
Despite the challenges, Ange Postecoglou has not wavered in his belief that Tottenham can still achieve something this season.
Speaking to football.london, the manager struck a tone of cautious optimism, highlighting the team’s resilience and the potential for reinforcements to make a difference in the coming weeks.
He said: “We’re not that far off. A week ago I was sitting here after winning a Carabao Cup quarter-final and having beaten Southampton 5-0 so it just seems like at the moment we can’t get a lot of traction in anything, in terms of getting healthy players or hitting a run of form but I think we have the capability of doing that,” he said.
“We need some reinforcements. Some will come when we get some injuries back but I still think if you look at some of the teams four or five points above us in the league and I don’t think that’s going to stretch by any great lengths over the next period because all teams you see are suffering at some point.
“Ours is probably a bit more extreme than others but I’m confident we’ll work through that and once we’re through will be stronger for it.”
The path forward for Tottenham
Postecoglou’s confidence is not without merit, as Tottenham remain in multiple competitions that could yet salvage their season.
The Europa League provides a potential route to next year’s Champions League, while the Carabao Cup and FA Cup offer opportunities for silverware that have eluded the club for years.
However, much of their success will hinge on the availability of key players and the club’s activity in the January transfer window.
If Tottenham can strengthen their squad and regain fitness for injured players, the second half of the season could take on a different trajectory.
Yet the road ahead is fraught with challenges, and the manager’s ability to balance domestic and European commitments will be key.
