Tottenham’s injury issues continue to go from bad to worse

Ange Postecoglou has had to make do without a number of his key players over the last few weeks and his problems got even worse during his side’s 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day.

Radu Dragusin came off with an ankle issue in the latter stages of that game while Djed Spence received a red card in stoppage time, thus giving the Australian an even-bigger headache ahead of the clash against Wolves.

It has now emerged that two of Tottenham’s key midfielders could soon be hit with a one-game suspension are they are currently walking a tightrope.

Spurs duo need to get through Sunday’s game unscathed

According to the Premier League‘s rules, any player who receives five yellow cards in the first 19 games of the season will be suspended for one game.

Yves Bissouma served a suspension against Southampton earlier this month after picking up his fifth booking of the season during Tottenham’s 4-3 loss to Chelsea.

Rodrigo Bentancur and James Maddison now run the risk of the same fate, with the pair on four yellow cards each at the moment.

They just have to navigate one more match without a booking to avoid a suspension, but if either of them picks up a yellow card against Wolves, they will be suspended for the clash against Newcastle on January 4.

Micky van de Ven is also on four yellow cards at the moment, but the Dutchman appears unlikely to feature against Wolves as he is still working his way up to full fitness.

What happens after 19 Premier League games?

Once the first half of the season is complete, the players will have some breathing space and will not have to worry about a suspension anytime soon.

The next landmark they will have to be concerned with is the 32nd game of the season, with those who amass ten yellow cards by that point having to serve a two-match suspension.
