Newcastle will not pay £33m for Tottenham player – Paul Robinson claims

Paul Robinson would not be surprised if a Premier League side like Newcastle came in for one Tottenham player, but the former Spurs goalkeeper believes that the Lilywhites will struggle to get the fee they want.

Richarlison struggling to save his Tottenham career

Richarlison‘s Tottenham career appears to be petering out to an unimpressive ending, with the striker ravaged by injuries across 2024.

The Brazilian now faces an uphill battle to save his Spurs career, particularly considering the fact that the Lilywhites are expected to add to their attacking stocks in January.

It emerged earlier this month that the 27-year-old is on Newcastle’s radar, with the Magpies backed to make an offer for the striker at the end of the season.

Paul Robinson on Newcastle’s interest in Richarlison

Robinson believes that the Brazil international needs a fresh start and that he is the kind of player that Eddie Howe’s men need.

However, the former England number one claims that Tottenham are holding out for £33m for the striker, which he suggested is too high a demand for a player with Richarlison‘s fitness record.

When asked about the Magpies’ interest in the striker, Robinson told Football Insider: “He seems like the type of player they would be looking for. You talk about that right-wing position, players that play behind the striker and can also play as a nine.

“The move to Tottenham hasn’t worked, he hasn’t played enough football or scored enough goals. I heard the other day that Spurs will hold out for £33 million for him. They’re not going to get £33million for a 27-year-old who’s hardly played in the last 12 months.

“For Newcastle, he’s the type of player who would be a good fit. His contract is until 2027, but the fact Tottenham will hold out for top-whack and won’t let him go on the cheap, that’s not a January deal for me.”

Richarlison will not be leaving for Newcastle in January

It has been widely reported over the last few weeks that the Tottenham man is also attracting plenty of interest from Brazil ahead of January.

However, over recent days, various outlets have made it clear that the striker has no intention of leaving Spurs in the upcoming transfer window and that he is not completely sold on the idea of returning to his home country at this stage of his career.
