Tottenham first-half player ratings vs Liverpool – League leaders take control
The first half of Premier League action between Spurs and Liverpool has come to an end, with the visitors in total control at the interval. Over the duration of the last forty-five minutes, we’ve analysed each player’s individual performance. Let’s take a look at our Tottenham vs Liverpool player ratings.
Tottenham first-half player ratings vs Liverpool
Fraser Forster: Forster would’ve wanted to put his midweek mistakes behind him but he almost repeated them inside two minutes, as a dinked pass fell kindly to Salah, whose shot was lashed just wide. Forster was beaten on three occasions, and none of them were particularly unstoppable. It was a let-down from the Spurs keeper, to say the least. 3.
Djed Spence: It’s a second consecutive PL start from Spence as he defends the left flank. He made an important double-block on the quarter-hour mark to deny Salah, and he kept the Egyptian at bay throughout the half, anticipating his runs and dealing with them effortlessly. Another impressive half from Spence. 7.
Archie Gray: Gray was once again trusted out of position, but his inexperience at centre-back was exploited by Liverpool as both of their goals could’ve been dealt with better by the Spurs defence. Gray wasn’t completely at fault for any of them though, and all this will be valuable experience for the youngster. 4.
Radu Dragusin: Spurs’ only fit centre-back was poor in the first half, and his half-hearted defensive effort allowed Liverpool to score with ease. From mistimed headers to poor defensive awareness, Radu was lacklustre, to say the least. Looking at the two centre-backs, you’d think Gray was the one playing in his preferred position. 2.
Pedro Porro: Porro retains his right-back spot despite his recent inconsistencies. There’s an argument that Diaz was Porro’s man for the visitor’s opener, as Spurs conceded from the back-post on his side once again. 3.
Yves Bissouma: Biss was energetic off the ball to begin with, but in possession he was rather sluggish. It was too easy for Liverpool to play through him and Sarr in the midfield, and Spurs were made to pay. 4.
Pape Sarr: Sarr lacked most of what was asked of him in the first half. He posed almost no defensive challenge, and seemed to have no control in possession. He had the odd ambitious shot from the edge of the area, but they hardly troubled Allison. 4.
James Maddison: Despite a quiet first half, Maddison provided Spurs with hope as he found the back of the net a few minutes before half-time. It was a well-taken finish after he pounced on a loose ball deep into Liverpool territory. 6.
Dejan Kulusevski: Deki was deployed in his less-favoured right winger position and he found it difficult to get on the ball as much as he would’ve liked. Obviously, when he had possession, Spurs looked promising. But he didn’t have it enough to cause Liverpool any real problems. 5.
Dominic Solanke: Playing against one of his former employers, Solanke would’ve liked to have made an impact in an attacking sense this half, but he more often than not found himself doing his defensive duties as Spurs were limited opportunities by the league leaders. 5.
Heung-Min Son: Son was the recipient of the ball on a number of occasions but he never really looked in control of it. Whether he fell over the ball while dribbling, or fell over Szoboszlai as he flailed on the floor, the Spurs captain was subpar, to say the least. 4.
