David Ornstein reveals Tottenham’s stance on Ange Postecoglou’s future
David Ornstein has provided an update on where Tottenham Hotspur stand on Ange Postecoglou’s future and about the project underway at the club in light of the team’s recent inconsistencies.
Is Ange Postecoglou in danger of losing his job?
Calls for Postecoglou to be sacked have been growing in the media and among a section of the Spurs fans over recent weeks, which is not surprising given that the Lilywhites are languishing in tenth place in the table.
However, the situation is not as bad as it seems at first glance, with the North London club sitting just five points below fourth place and still going strong in the cup competitions.
In addition, the club have had to deal with an unprecedented injury crisis over the last month, which has severely handicapped the side.
David Ornstein reveals Tottenham’s stance on Postecoglou
Ornstein is clear after speaking to his sources at Spurs that despite the noise on the outside, Tottenham are not considering pulling the plug on the Postecoglou project.
The journalist explained that the club have decided to go for a long-term strategy by signing young players and that they have no plans of abandoning it at the first sight of trouble.
When asked about Postecoglou’s future, Ornstein told NBC Sports: “The pressure is external. Ange Postecoglou is squarely being backed by the Tottenham hierarchy.
“Every bit of dialogue that I’ve had so far suggests that he is fully supported and that they are not thinking about changing Postecoglou. Some sections of the fanbase and the wider public might not like to hear that, but it is the case, as things stand.
“Tottenham have taken a different strategy in recent years. They’ve not gone for experienced, big-name players in the transfer market. They’ve gone for younger players.
“Look at the likes of Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, Wilson Odobert and bringing Mikey Moore through… they’ve put their faith in Ange Postecoglou to develop a younger squad that they hope will pay dividends in the future.”
Tottenham confident Postecoglou is the right man
Ornstein further explained that despite Spurs’ inconsistency this season, the club’s hierarchy fully believes that the Australian is the right man to get the side challenging for honours.
He added: “Patience is a word that nobody likes, it’s in short supply, but they (Tottenham) are confident and that is why they and and Daniel Levy as the man at the top of the tree are standing by Postecoglou.
“They’ve tried the alternative route with Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, it hasn’t worked and it’s come down in pretty spectacular fashion. There’s been a huge churn of players leaving the club and new players coming in – it’s still relatively embryonic in terms of their settling-in process.”
